Interior Handover, Warranty and Aftercare Checklist

Inspect fitted interiors, record pending work, organise product documents and understand the written aftercare process before handover.

Check these three points
  • Inspect by opening, testing and measuring.
  • Keep pending work in one dated list.
  • Match every warranty term to a product or work item.

Handover is the point where the approved room list, finished home, pending items and care documents meet. Walk through slowly and leave with one record everyone can follow.

1. Bring the approved documents to the inspection

Keep the latest room list, drawings, material schedule, appliance models and written changes with you. If more than one family member must approve the work, agree who will consolidate comments so the site team receives one clear list.

Inspect in daylight where possible and carry a phone charger, tape measure, removable labels and a notepad. Do not rush through because the room looks finished from the entrance.

2. Inspect every fitted unit by action

Open shutters, drawers, sliding units and lift mechanisms. Check handles, locks, shelf supports and the specified soft-close action. Look inside cabinets, above lofts and below counters. Confirm that adjacent doors and appliances can open without collision.

Switch on provided lights and test accessible points. Confirm appliance spaces against the selected models. Where water has been connected and the site is ready, inspect sink and plumbing areas for access and visible leaks.

3. Put every pending item in one dated list

Give each item a room, short description, photograph, owner and target date. Separate incomplete work from a requested change: they may have different cost and schedule consequences. Agree how closure will be shown and who can accept it.

Do not scatter the final list across several chats. A shared document or signed sheet makes follow-up easier. Update the status instead of deleting old entries, so the sequence remains understandable.

Close with proof of action

For each item, record what was corrected and when it was checked again.

4. Match warranty terms to the exact item

Ask which terms come from a product manufacturer and which apply to the designer's or installer's work. Record the covered product or work item, start date, duration, exclusions, claim contact and documents required. If a term is important to the purchase decision, ask for it in writing before final approval.

A verbal “warranty” without the applicable item and terms is difficult to use later. Keep invoices, product labels, care instructions and any registration steps together. Do not register a product under the wrong owner or discard identifying labels before the documents are organised.

5. Set a simple aftercare path

Confirm one contact method for service questions and the information to include: project name, room, photograph, issue, when it began and whether it affects safe use. Ask what routine adjustment or maintenance the homeowner is expected to perform.

Use the coastal materials checklist to keep cleaning and exposure guidance beside the room specification.

Your final handover pack

  1. Latest approved drawings and room list.
  2. Written change record and final account.
  3. Dated pending-work list with photographs.
  4. Material and hardware schedule.
  5. Appliance models and service access notes.
  6. Product invoices, labels and care instructions supplied.
  7. Applicable written warranty terms and claim contacts.
  8. Keys, remotes and access items.
  9. Cleaning and maintenance guidance.
  10. One agreed aftercare contact path.

A good handover leaves fewer assumptions. Keep one complete pack and use it whenever an adjustment, repair or future renovation is needed.
